Worksafe Release Their Strategic Plan for Healthy Work

WorkSafe NZ’s vision is that everyone who goes to work comes home healthy and safe.  They have released a new 10-year strategic plan for work-related health which is aimed at improving awareness, attitudes and behaviours around work-related health, and through these, better management of work-related health risks and reduced exposures to health hazards.

In the summary of the plan it is noted that each year an estimated 600 – 900 people die of work-related diseases and around a further 30,000 people develop serious but non-fatal work-related ill-health.  There are also some estimated costs of work-related health issues for New Zealand, such as the estimated average cost of lost productivity over a typical worker’s career for each case of work-related ill-health, being $44,500.
