Personal Grievance -what can it cost you?

In 2013 the average ‘hurt and humiliation’ compensation award from the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) in Auckland was $4,421, in Wellington $5,270, and Christchurch $5,798. Unfortunately we come under the Christchurch ERA. This is only part of the costs of losing a personal grievance. On average it costs an employer $37,085 to lose.

Nelson Salon Fined $20K

Losing a personal grievance has cost a Nelson hair salon, Untouchable Hair and Skin, in excess of $20k excluding costs. The employee, Shaneen Brown, made a number of claims including that she was unjustifiably dismissed, bullied, unjustifiably suspended, not given an employment agreement and her training was not paid for as agreed.
