Unannounced H & S inspections

How would your business perform if you had an unannounced H & S inspection?

The Department of Labour is being more proactive by carrying out unannounced inspections. Some of these inspections are resulting in hefty fines, despite no harm being caused. For example Sleepyhead Manufacturing Company Limited was issued with an improvement notice after an unannounced inspection highlighted they were failing to protect their employees from a hazardous machine and were subsequently prosecuted  and fined $40,000. Another unannounced inspection resulted in a building demolition company being charged with failing to protect its employees from live electricity and exposure to asbestos and receiving a fine of $20,000.
