Making Deductions from Employees Wages

In a recent case, the Authority determined that a Palmerston North Café had made unauthorised deductions from an employee’s (Ms Hill) wages, even though the they had her written consent to make the deductions.
Employees breach good faith obligations towards their employer.

Legal action was recently taken by E-Lighting against two former employees over allegations that during their employment with the company, they took orders and sold products via a company Limelight Design belonging to one of them.
Employee Dismissed After Being Sexually Harassed By Boss

Varinder Singh was dismissed by his employer, Ravichandiren NarayaNasamy, of Wellywood Backpackers, in Wellington in August 2014 for complaining about sexual harassment by Mr NarayaNasamy. Mr Singh said he had received many explicit text messages from Mr NarayaNasamy that were "personal, intrusive, and of a sexual nature", between April and July 2014. One such text message, produced during the ERA hearing, said "I need to have sexs with u soon".
Farmer Dismissed for Abusing Cow

A Takaka herd manager fired for abusing cows won his case for unjustified dismissal in the Employment Relations Authority however compensation has been denied by the Employment Court after an appeal by the farm owner.
