Despite Turei Peters being too drunk to attend work following a Boxing Day drinking binge, his dismissal was deemed to be unjustified by the Employment Relations Authority (ERA). Mr Peters, a Knifehand Cutter, had texted his employer Bay Packers (NZ) Ltd saying “Apologies ray 2 crook to make it in. Turei”. The next day he explained he had been drinking until 3am and was therefore too drunk to come to work for the start of his 5am shift.
