ACC statistics - NZ v UK

Did you know in NZ? (population 4.4 million)

  • ACC receive an injury claim on average every 17 seconds
  • The Department of Labour report the amount of deaths as a result of fatal work-related incidents as:
    • In 2009, 68 employees;
    • In 2010, 77 employees;
    • In 2011, 41 employees.
    • Already this year another 7 employees have died.
  • 248 serious harm notifications were received from the Nelson, Tasman & Marlborough regions in 2011 from the 6087 received across New Zealand.

  • 1.2 million working people are suffering from a work-related illness
  • 171 workers were killed at work in 2011
  • 115,000 injuries were reported
  • 200,000 reportable injuries (more than 3 day absence) occurred
  • 26.4 million working days were lost due to work related illnesses & injuries

  • Sadly, 2010 was an extraordinary year with the figure including the mining disaster fatalities.
